Apiwath Wongthananon made use of his wildcard experience gained at the Thai round of the Moto3 World Championship and had the perfect approach to the Albacete race weekend.

He got off to positive free practice sessions, had a very good qualifying session and an even better race.

From 4th on the grid in wet conditions, Apiwath got a good start and immediately moved up to 3rd, which he kept for most of the race. However, as the race progressed toward the end, he made a mistake and unfortunately lost the podium, but he avoiding taking risks and secured a strong 4th place at the finish.

This is the third positive weekend in a row for the VR46 Master Camp rider, but the job is not done. In two weeks' time he will be back in the Moto3 World Championship again as a wildcard at the Malaysian round in Sepang.

"I'm very happy with this weekend; we worked well. I had a good feeling with the bike and had a positive free practice session and qualifying. When the rain came it became more challenging, but I managed a good start anyway. I felt good in the wet and I fought for the podium for most of the race. Towards the end I made a mistake and finished 4th, but I'm really happy. Now I'm focused on Sepang as that's my next wildcard race in the Moto3 World Championship. I want to do my best!"

Luca Brivio - Team Manager
"We wrap this weekend with a great 4th position for Apiwath. It's a pity for the podium as he got really close! Apiwath got a good start and was 3rd until halfway through the race when he made a mistake and lost one position. After his participation as a wildcard at the Thai round of the Moto3 World Championship, Apiwath gained some experience and got to feel a different level of competitiveness. He's growing in the right direction and he will be back as a wildcard at the Malaysian round. We are very happy to see his positive development!"
